At Woods Orthotics, your care is led by fully qualified, HCPC‑registered orthotists: a small, highly skilled profession dedicated to improving mobility, comfort, and quality of life through expertly designed orthotic solutions. Orthotists are the primary clinicians responsible for the assessment, prescription, and provision of orthoses: medical devices that support, align, or improve the function of the body.
Our work blends clinical expertise with advanced technology, ensuring every patient receives a solution tailored to their unique needs. Whether you’re managing pain, recovering from injury, or seeking long‑term support for a complex condition, we provide thoughtful, evidence‑based care from your very first appointment.

• Foot Orthoses (Insoles): Custom‑made or bespoke devices to improve foot function, reduce pain, and enhance everyday comfort.
• Ankle–Foot Orthoses (AFOs): Support for walking, stability, and neurological conditions.

Our Story
Our journey in orthotics began in 2012, working across several companies and within the NHS. Those years shaped not only our clinical expertise but also our belief in what truly defines good orthotic care: time, clarity, and a genuine partnership with every patient. After a decade of experience, we opened our own private clinic in Oswestry in 2022 with a clear purpose—to provide the standard of care we had always wanted to deliver.
From the start, we built our clinic around thoughtful, unrushed appointments where listening comes first. We take the time to understand each person’s goals, explain every option clearly, and work with our patients to find solutions that genuinely improve comfort, mobility, and confidence. Our approach blends up‑to‑date technology—such as digital scanning and pressure analysis—with the clinical judgement that only experienced orthotists can offer.
Communication is central to how we work. We maintain strong links with referrers, Orthopaedic Consultants, physiotherapists, and all professionals involved in a patient’s care, ensuring everyone is informed and aligned. Creating an accessible, welcoming environment was equally important to us. Our Oswestry clinic includes a wheelchair‑accessible toilet and dedicated parking bays directly outside the door, making visits as easy and comfortable as possible.
As our service has grown, so has our reach. We now also run a clinic from Bridge House Clinic in Rossett, near Chester, allowing us to support even more people with the same high standard of personalised orthotic care.
Meet The Team
Mr Tom Woods BSc (hons)
MBAPOSenior Orthotist and co-owner of Woods Orthotics
Tom, a highly skilled Orthotist, earned his degree from the University of Salford in 2013. With a strong track record, he has worked at prestigious hospitals including Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital, Kings College Hospital, and the Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital.
His expertise lies in gait analysis and orthotic prescription, aimed at enhancing function and reducing pain across a broad spectrum of conditions. Tom's dedication to education is evident through his role as a lecturer at the University of Salford, where he helped train future Prosthetists and Orthotists.
Tom possesses specialised knowledge in managing gait pathologies stemming from neurological conditions such as Cerebral palsy, Spina Bifida, Charcot Marie Tooth (CMT), Spinal Cord Injuries, and Polio. His commitment to advancing the field is exemplified by his active membership in the Research Committee for the British Association of Prosthetists and Orthotists (BAPO)
Mrs Ffion Woods BSc (hons)

In 2012, Ffion graduated with a 1st Class degree in Prosthetics and Orthotics from Salford University, launching her journey in Orthotics. Her career led her to prestigious hospitals in London, such as the Royal London Hospital, Royal Free Hospital and Guy's and St Thomas' Hospital. There, she honed her craft and specialised in crafting custom orthopaedic footwear.
Driven by a desire to be closer to family, Ffion joined the Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt hospital in Gobowen, spending 7 years advancing to Senior Orthotist and excelling in the Diabetic Foot Clinic. Her expertise spans various orthotic solutions, including knee braces, insoles, spinal braces, footwear and upper limb orthoses.
Ffion's commitment extended to serving as a Clinical Audit Lead, staying abreast of advancements in her field. She's a dedicated learner, actively seeking training and staying current with research and technology.
Outside of work, Ffion enjoys staying active through netball and weight lifting, and enjoys fashion.
Our Clinic Sites:
Woods Orthotics operates from two clinical locations to make access to specialist orthotic care easier for our patients. We run our main clinic in Oswestry and a second site at Bridge House Clinic in Rossett, near Chester. Both clinics offer the same high standard of assessment, treatment and follow‑up, so patients can choose whichever location is most convenient for them.
