On Friday 20th February, we had the pleasure of attending The Movement Centre Open Day, where we were invited to present about orthotics. What an inspiring and energising day it turned out to be.

From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed by so many passionate people, all dedicated to improving lives. The Movement Centre team—who run this remarkable charity and specialist treatment centre—work tirelessly to support children and their families living with movement difficulties. It was a privilege to learn more about their work, their ethos, and the impact they make every single day.

Learning From Incredible Teams

We were fortunate to watch The Movement Centre’s own presentation, which gave us a deeper insight into specialist children’s physiotherapy and their targeted training therapy programme. Seeing the difference their approach makes was truly inspiring.

We also enjoyed a brilliant presentation from The Cavalier Centre, a fully accessible, state‑of‑the‑art equestrian facility just outside Much Wenlock. Led by over 200 volunteers, the centre offers inclusive horse‑based activities including hippotherapy (physiotherapy on horseback) and horse care. Their wider programmes help people develop life skills, emotional intelligence, and wellbeing. Hearing about the breadth of their work was eye‑opening and uplifting.

A Sweet Break and Great Conversations

A short break followed—complete with the most delicious doughnuts kindly provided by Planet Doughnut. This gave us the perfect opportunity to chat with attendees about what we do, the types of orthotics we provide, and how orthotic intervention can support people of all ages. It was lovely to see so much curiosity and enthusiasm.

Our Turn to Present

After the break, it was our turn. Tom took the lead and delivered our presentation on orthotics: what they are, who they can help and the difference they can make. We were genuinely delighted by the response. Several people approached us afterwards to say they had never heard of orthotics before and wished they’d known sooner, as they knew someone who could benefit. Raising awareness is exactly why we were there and it felt incredibly rewarding to know the message landed.

More Fantastic Presentations

We also enjoyed a wonderful presentation from Caroline, representing DMO. She explained in detail how Dynamic Movement Orthoses can support a wide range of conditions. We use DMO Lycra garments regularly in clinic and see fantastic results, so it was great to hear more about the science and innovation behind them.

RMS Rehab also presented their range of wheelchairs, standing frames and walkers, hugely useful and informative for anyone working in mobility and rehabilitation.

Catching Up With Old Friends

A highlight of the day was catching up with some of our fabulous former colleagues from the RJAH Orthotics Department over lunchtime. We even had the chance to pop into the workshop to see the technicians. It was lovely to reminisce and reconnect with such brilliant people.

A Day to Remember

The Movement Centre Open Day was a fantastic celebration of collaboration, learning and shared purpose. We left feeling inspired, grateful and proud to be part of a community working so hard to improve lives.

A huge thank you to everyone involved for hosting such a warm, informative and uplifting event. We’re already looking forward to the next one.
